So, you're digging through your office supply cabinet
& you see an old headset laying there. Who knows if it's been used or not?
You don't want someone else's cooties do you? Save yourself anywhere from
$75-$130 by simply revitalizing that old headset with new replacement parts.
Many people are unaware that you can easily replace
those ear cushions,
voice tubes, & sometimes even the actual
headband itself
at a fraction of the cost of a new headset. With the ear cushions -
there are sometimes even a "Leatherette" cushion available (As opposed to a
foam cushion), which are also great for situations when multiple users share
the same headset (They can be cleaned/wiped off with an alcohol wipe).
It is imperative that you get the right parts, however, since there are
several different sized ear-cushions, ear-buds, & voice tubes...& they're
all proprietary to certain headset models.
The GN Netcom brand products do not have available
replacement voice tubes (Only ear cushions & cables). However, the
Plantronics brand has a whole line of products available ranging from
wind-screens &
ear cushions, to
voice tubes,
cables & adapters. Just
to reiterate the importance of matching the correct part to the correct
headset; each manufacturer in the industry uses "Similar looking parts", but
they WILL NOT work with anything
other than their respective model headset. Never go off a hunch or the
posted photo, since stock images can change or again...even look almost
identical to what you need.
If you need to replace a connection cable (For
plugging directly into a headset jack on the phone), you'll need one
of any number of cables. This gets a little tricky since there are
several different types & models of phones out there. You can always
give a quick call & we'll point you in the right direction! Please be
sure to have your phone's brand name & model number available (It can be
VERY important).
And remember...
There's no such thing as a "Regular ol' phone."

Searching the web for a headset can be a time
consuming & frustrating ordeal with all of the headsets out there,
especially for a phone with very specific compatibility needs.
Plantronics (The industry leader) offers the biggest selection, best sound
quality, & most durable headsets available. Coupled with their special
Cisco IP Cable (Called the "-CIS" Series) you not only save time &
money...but your frustration as well. You can rest assured that these
will work with your Cisco 7900 Series IP phones* & will come with everything
you need to get up & running in no time (*The Cisco Cordless IP Phones such
as the 7920 & 7921 will require a slightly different adapter cable).
The only decision
you have to make is, "Which wearing style do I prefer?" You have 3 basic
differences between all corded headsets:
1.)
Over-the-Head versus Over-the-Ear wearing style (Also available
is a "Convertible" headset which allows for both!)
2.) Noise
Canceling Microphone versus the older Voice Tube (Noise Canceling
will help reduce your background noise & gives you better sound)
3.)
Single-Ear headset versus a Dual-Ear version (Covers one, or both
ears)
Finally a Mid-Level "Long
ranged" cordless phone system comes out. From the brilliant minds who
brought you the DuraFon Systems at EnGenius, comes their newest creation -
the
FreeStyl1. While it doesn't cover anywhere near as
much area as the DuraFon, it also doesn't cost as much either! It'll
out-perform your standard home cordless telephone easily.
The
FreeStyl1covers
up to 25,000 square feet, 10 acres or 6 floors of penetration. It's signal can
penetrate through Concrete, Wood and Drywall. Gives you further range than your
standard store-bought 2.4 or 5.8 GHz cordless phones. Digital Spread
Spectrum-Security for safe & secure calling. You can even expand the base unit
up to nine (9) total
handsets. Comes with a built in 2-Way Radio for use between
the handsets as well as a handset broadcast system. Comes with "Base station
dialing" w/speakerphone & a wireless Intercom. Call transfer, 4-line backlit
display, Any Key Answer, 2.5mm Headset Jack, Selectable Ring tones/vibrate mode,
& a Key guard. Not getting enough range out of your standard cordless phone?
Then it's time to step up to a

What's better, is that it's virtually the same price as a standard wireless

Starting June 11th - 2010, Plantronics will be
increasing the price on all of their professional headset connection cables.
This may not sound like a big deal at first, but please keep in mind that this
will affect the pricing on quite a few "Direct Connect" headsets that come with
these cables!
The
Following products will be affected by this price change (Average increase of
$10-$20 per unit):
The "A10"
cable will not change in price & normally comes with all of our "Current"
P-Series headsets, which will also have no price change.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, but this is unfortunately out of
our control.
We will continue to strive towards lower prices & customer service in these
tough economical times.

You may be asking yourself, "What type of phone do I need for my
wireless
headset to work with?" Well, there's no real quick answer to
this...but it's not too complex either. First let me just say that
since there are literally thousands & thousands of phones out there in all
different sizes, shapes, functions, & wiring...there just isn't anyway of
saying that they will all work with all wireless headset systems.
Although "Most" phones are indeed compatible, there are a few things that
you need to be aware of first.
One of the most common misconceptions, is that a
wireless headset system
will plug into a telephone's headset jack - FALSE.
Although there are a couple "Very rare" instances where this will work,
99% of all wireless systems actually plug in to the phone's handset jack
(NOT the headset jack). Your phone's headset jack has a built-in
amplifier & is designed primarily for corded headsets. Since wireless
headsets were designed for the primary purpose of being able to remotely
answer your phone by pressing the button on your wireless headset itself,
they have to go through that handset jack...& in turn, your handset will
piggy-back off of the wireless' base unit.
The handset "Lifter": This is an optional accessory that is needed
for those same 99.9% of wireless headsets, in order to enable remote
answering. What the lifter does is physically lift your receiver &
holds it above the cradle for the duration of your call. Then once you
press the button on your headset again, it lowers the receiver back down &
hangs up the call. Without a
handset lifter
, you would have to
constantly place your handset on the desk before the call, then hang it up
after the call - for EACH & EVERY call. You cannot simply leave your
handset off-hook...or your phone will never activate the call (It would be
like you are on a never-ending call & possibly even "Time out").
Now, for those 1% of headsets that are unique; certain specific
AVAYA, Cisco, & Polycom phones have a built in "Hook switch" that (With a
special
Hook switch cable) will allow your wireless headset system to
interface with the phone itself. This special hook switch cable takes
the place of (But essentially does the same thing as) the handset lifter.
Most hook switch cables are sold separately from the wireless headset
system, with the exception of the
AWH models from Plantronics (Avaya
Wireless Headset).
Remote handset lifters work with all phones - FALSE
Due to the various shape & layout of some phones, using a
handset lifter
could potentially cause a problem. Lifters will almost always work
with a standard "Square" or "Rectangular" shaped phone. However, some of the
more "Curvy" & shapely phones out there might not allow for use of the
lifter. Plantronics makes a special attachment for the lifter only,
that works with most Nortel phones with the curved side; this device works
on several other phones as well. One last thing to take into account;
the "Tilt" of your phone. Make sure that your phone has the ability to
tilt back around 45 degrees or flatter. If your phone stands too
erect, your handset will merely flop off the cradle & on to your desk (It's
funny only at first!).
And as I always say, "When all else fails - call us for compatibility"

GN Netcom Office Professional headsets for iPhone &
BlackBerry phones (Jabra Link Hook)
Looking for alternative corded headset to use with your BlackBerry or
iPhone, other than the little ear-bud styles? Well, now you have a
choice - several in fact!
Jabra/GN Netcom has made a special cable called the
Jabra Link Hook, exclusively designed for the Apple iPhones & the
BlackBerry cell phones that will allow you to one of the many office style
professional headsets. The
Jabra Link Hook cable has the GN Netcom QD (Quick Disconnect) adapter at
one end, & a 3.5mm (4 conductor) male plug on the other end - that plugs into
your phone's headset jack. It even works on some "Very hard to find" Bang
& Olufsen office phone headset jacks. What makes this cable unique (& the
iPhone & Blackberry jacks for that matter), is the special 4-Conductor plug.
While most cordless phones & older cell phones use a smaller 2.5mm plug, &
even standard music players & audio devices use a standard 3.5mm plug...they are
all 3-conductor standard. Conductors is another name for how many "Contact
Points" you have on the tip of your plug. If you count the small black
rings on a typical plug end...you will almost certainly find 2 black rings which
separate the metal "Contact Points" (Or conductors) - also called T/R/S or
Tip/Ring/Sleeve. BlackBerry's & iPhones however, will have 3 black rings
(T/R/R/S or Tip/Ring/Ring/Sleeve) - SEE BELOW.
So now you have options - which headset will you choose? Jabra/GN
Netcom makes some of the finest office headsets around. And with the special QD
attachments...you can use the same headset for your office phone, computer, &
BlackBerry or iPhone. Why not simplify? Check out our full line of
GN Netcom Headsets here:

Being in the telephone
headset industry,
we are often asked for headphones by mistake. So, what's the
difference? Simply put: Headsets are for telephones &
have a microphone on them; Headphones are for audio devices & have
speakers only (No microphone).
Most headsets have one of 2 different types of plug ends
on them. They either have a
2.5mm single prong plug (Most commonly found on cordless phones), or an
RJ9 modular plug (Used on professional business phones like NEC, Nortel, Cisco,
etc.). The
2.5mm versions (Also referred to residential grade headsets) usually
range in price from $20 to $50. The RJ9 type headsets (Also referred to
professional or commercial grade headsets) typically range from about $70 to
$140 depending upon the style & features.
The Plantronics brand comes highly recommended for the best sound
quality & durability.
Jabra/GN Netcom comes in a close second.
Audio headphones are in an entirely different realm
altogether. Not including the iPhone which uses a special proprietary
plug, there are generally only 2 types of plugs...& you can find adapters for
either to fit the other. They are the 3.5mm (1/8") & the larger 1/4" phono
style plugs. There are literally thousands upon thousands of different
audio headsets out there with new ones popping up every minute. What sets
them apart is all a matter sound quality, durability, & wearing style. Since
BOSE is in a class of it's own...& nothing really compares to it (Especially in
price), we'll leave that out of here. However, my personal recommendation
& something that I frequently use to great satisfaction, is the Sennheiser HD
Pro Series (The 212 HD in particular). Unbelievable sound definition, very
comfortable & reasonably priced for Pro grade headphones.

With many modern companies switching their telephony systems over to VoIP
applications (Voice Over Internet Protocol) - or "Computer based phone
system", lots of people tend to choose "Computer"
headsets by accident instead of a traditional "Telephone" headset.
What's the difference? Why does it matter to me?
Well, for one...computer headsets are primarily designed for multi-media
listening (ie. Movies, Music, & Games, etc.). They enhance certain
features like a "Boomy" bass frequency which is great for games & movies, but
definitely not for phone calls! Telephone style headsets on the other
hand, produce a sound & experience closer to an actual telephone call.
They enhance the key frequencies needed to understand what your caller is
saying to you (Voice frequencies), & help to prevent the constant, "What?
Was that a C or a D? Oh, it was T!"
If you already have a
professional office headset from Plantronics (With the QD quick disconnect)
you may be able to use a
DA-Series USB adapter cable to make the switch even easier. The
Plantronics professional office headsets (H-series) will all work with the
DA-Series USB adapter cables. So, if you're starting from
scratch...click
HERE & choose from one of almost 30 different headsets. Then click
HERE & check out the different DA-Series USB cables to see which one
suits your needs.
So make the right choice - are you playing games, or are you making business
calls?

With all of the choices in headsets nowadays, it's hard to keep up with the ever-changing technology for the average everyday person (AKA - the technologically challenged). So, you're in need of a headset but you don't know if you need an amplifier for it...or perhaps you don't know what an amplifier is or what it's for. Well, without getting overly complex...I'll make it really simple.
What is the purpose of an Amplifier?: Briefly; amplifiers provide a source of power to the headset that allows it to work, add additional volume control (Both inbound & outbound control), & have a much better tone & overall sound quality than most built-in amplifiers.
Do I need an Amplifier?: That all depends on your phone. First, does your phone have a dedicated headset jack? If so, what does it look like (A small round hole, or square modular jack like where your handset plugs in)? If you have either of these headset jacks...then you have a built in amplifier! Now, you have a few options: You can use a Direct Connect headset, a Headset with an adapter cable, or...you can still use an amplifier if you so choose.
If your headset jack is a small round hole (Such as on a cordless phone), that's known as a 2.5mm jack. With these, you can use a pre-wired headset or a Professional headsetwith a special 2.5mm adapter. If that still doesn't give you enough volume or you have a hearing impairment, I would highly recommend the Plantronics MHA100 Inline Amplifier along with one of the previously mentioned headsets. The MHA100 amp will net you 3-times louder volume!
If your phone has a square/modular headset jack, then you can use either a Professional grade "Direct Connect" headset, or what's called an External Amplifier (Such as the Plantronics M22) along with a headset. Keep in mind that whenever you use an external amplifier, you will no longer be able to use the "Headset" button on your phone's keypad, as these type amplifiers are designed to go through your phone's HANDset jack (NOT the headset jack). So essentially, better quality but more effort to answer/end calls.
An Important Side Note: If you choose the Direct Connect option, you may also run into phones (like certain Lucent/Avaya, Cisco, & Polycom's) that require a very specific cable in order for your headset to work. However, most Nortel/Norstar, NEC, & others will take the standard "Direct Connect" headsets which come with the connection cable already.
And when all else fails, please feel free to give me a call & I'd be more than happy to assist! Mike Ottovich - Sales & Product Specialist at Headset-Plus.com can be reached at 877-666-9998
Most individuals in search of a good conference phone are familiar with the "Big Boys" of the conference phone realm - Polycom & ClearOne. Well, Konftel has been quietly sneaking up on them both here in the US after making a solid name for itself in Europe. Not only does the 300W get rid of your cable mess with it's wireless capability; not only does it give you dependable high quality conferencing sound, but it is one of the only conference phones available that has a "Built-In Recording" feature using a removable SD card. What's more? DECT 6.0 for outstanding sound and range DECT is a well-tried and tested wireless standard when it comes to security and audio transfer. The phone has a range of up to 200 meters making it possible to move it to where the conference is to be held. The Konftel 300W is GAP compatible and can therefore be integrated with existing DECT/GAP systems.
Memory card recordingsThe Konftel 300W can record calls or dictations onto an SD memory card. The recorded calls can be listened to on the Konftel 300W or a computer with a memory card reader.
Flexible performanceAs well as the wireless DECT connection, the Konftel 300W can be connected to a mobile phone and PC via a USB port for VoIP calls using wideband voice. The line mode switches and combines connections.
OmniSound® 2.0 – sensational sound Our patented audio technology, OmniSound ®, is embedded into all Konftel phones to ensure crystal-clear voice transmission. OmniSound® 2.0 provides the Konftel 300W with the capability to deliver an even more impressive audio quality. Just like OmniSound® full duplex, OmniSound® 2.0 uses an omnidirectional microphone and three speakers for optimal audio performance. OmniSound® 2.0 is enhanced with innovative features – noise suppression minimizes distracting background noise, wideband voice transmission gives 7 kHz during VoIP calls and an equalizer allows you to adjust sound levels during your meeting.

Though the Plantronics CT14 only comes with one dial pad and one charging base, you can actually register up to six dial pads to each base. If you purchase more than one CT14 unit, and have several dial pads registered to the same base, users can actually intercom with the other dial pads or even have a 3-way conference with another dial pad and an outside caller.
Registering multiple dial pads (handsets) to the same charging base:
1. Make sure dial pad batteries are fully charged.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter on the base you want to register your dial pad to. Then press and hold PAGE while reconnecting the adapter. Keep holding PAGE until CHARGE indicator starts to blink.
3. On the dial pad, press MENU/SEL. Select the Register base menu. "Handset Registering" will appear in the display. After step 2, you have thirty seconds to complete this step 3 before the system returns to standby.
4. Wait approximately 30 seconds. "Registration complete" will be displayed on the dial pad screen when the handset has been registered to the base (a handset ID will be automatically assigned).
5. If "Registration failed" appears on the dial pad screen, please try these steps again.
Note: The handset will stay connected to the new base until you select a different base (see below).
One dial pad can also be registered (connected) to up to 4 different charging bases. You can set the dial pad to automatically search for a new base if the base it's currently connected to is unavailable or out of range. You can also manually select which base you want the handset to connect to.
Manually selecting the baseyou want the dial pad to connect to:
1. Press MENU/SEL while the phone is standby; select the Handset Setup menu, and the Select base submenu.
2. Move the cursor to select the base you want to connect to, or choose "Auto" to have the dial pad automatically search for and select the base nearest you.
3. Press MENU/SEL again. "Searching" will appear in the display.
4. The dial pad will return to the standby mode when the base is found. "Searching" will continue if this base is not found. You can repeat the above searching procedure or return to the original base.
Note: your call will be dropped if you change bases during a call.
How does the CT14intercom feature work?
You need to have at least two CT14 units registered to the same charging base and within the reception range (up to 300 feet). Only two dial pads at a time can be on an intercom call, but while two dial pads are in the intercom mode, the rest of dial pads registered the same base will still be able to make and answer outgoing/incoming phone calls.
Can I make an intercom paging to more than one dial pad?
When you press INT'COM/CLEAR on your dial pad, you can choose to intercom with any one of the dial pads (handsets) registered to the same base or even intercom/page all the dial pads. However, only two dial pads are allowed to intercom each other at the same time, so only the dial pad that answers the intercom/page first would be able to intercom with you.
While two units are in the middle of an intercom conversation, what happens to calls coming in from outside callers?
During an intercom conversation, a background ringing will be heard by both parties when an incoming call is received. Either of the dial pads can answer this phone call by pressing TALK/FLASH. If there are other dial pads registered to (and in range of) the same base, any of them can also answer this phone call (this will not affect the on-going intercom conversation).
How does the 3-way conferencing feature work in CT14?
With two CT14 units registered to the same base, when an outside call comes in and is answered by one of the dial pads, a second CT14 dial pad will be able to join this call by pressing TALK/FLASH. This starts a 3-way conference. This non-traditional 3-way conferencing does not require any subscription to that service from a phone service provider. The user with the second unit can easily leave the conference by pressing END.
Can a 3rd or 4th user join a 3-way conference if there are already two users on the line with the incoming call?
Unfortunately, the 3-way conferencing feature is limited to 2 dial pads and one outside line. "Line in Use" appears in the displays of the rest of dial pads registered to the same base. Though the other dial pads can intercom each other during this time, they will not be able to answer or make outside calls.
Can I transfer the incoming phone call to another dial pad registered to the same base without dropping the call?
You can transfer a call from one dial pad to another as long as they are currently connected to the base:
1. Press INT'COM/CLEAR during a call.
2. Press Up or Down arrow to select the dial pad (you can also select All to page all dial pads) you would like to transfer the call to, then press MENU/SEL. The call will be automatically put on hold and you will hear a paging tone sound. To cancel the transfer, press TALK/FLASH.
3. The selected dial pad(s) will ring and show which dial pad is paging -- and under that will display "Line on Hold".
4. When another dial pad answers the transferred call, you will be disconnected from the call. You can re-join the call while it is active by pressing TALK/FLASH. This call would then become a 3-way conference ("Conf" will be displayed on the screen).
Can I keep my phone conversation private even though there are multiple units connected to the same base?
When you are on a phone call and you do not want other users to interrupt or join your conversation, you can set your dial pad to "Privacy Mode" and other users can't join your call or intercom with you. While you are on a call, press MENU/SEL. Then select Call Privacy. "Privacy mode on" appears in the display for two seconds; the privacy icon (the letter "P") appears and remains in the display until this feature is turned off.
